PLAY WITH US
Red Stitch will bring seven world class productions to Melbourne in 2026, including Ray Lawler’s epic, The Doll Trilogy - which begins with the VCE Theatre Studies play listed Kid Stakes. Travel back to 1937 Depression era Carlton as Roo, Barney, Nancy and Olive begin their seventeen year journey of seasonal romance - the joyful prequel to Lawler’s landmark Australian tragedy Summer of the Seventeenth Doll.
LEARN WITH US
Deepen your students’ understanding of Kid Stakes with a Red Stitch post-show talk - an engaging opportunity to connect the production to VCE Theatre Studies curriculum outcomes.
Teaching artist and Red Stitch Producer Krystalla Pearce will deliver a 50-minute presentation pre-recorded on the production's set and available for you to watch with your class on demand. This talk will offer a behind-the-scenes perspective on how Ray Lawler’s world comes to life on stage; describe how Red Stitch’s ensemble approach informs the production; and situate Kid Stakes within the broader historical and literary context of The Doll Trilogy. It will invite students to reflect critically on themes, character development and stylistic elements, enhancing their analytical and evaluative skills while inspiring deeper appreciation for this landmark Australian work.
This online resource is available for your class for $120.
Make sure to add Post Show Talk: Exploring Kid Takes to your reservation request form and the link to your digital viewing will be sent to you after your visit.
