Students uncover the concepts, similarities and differences of ‘Naturalism’ and ‘Realism’ by exploring scenes from Henrik Ibsen and Anton Chekhov. A study guide with selected scenes and links to further reading is supplied as part of the class. Students will be encouraged to compare and contrast the style of theatre texts in performance and some key elements of acting style and stagecraft will be discussed in relation to the ideas and historical context of the work. This package is flexible, and based on an hourly rate according to the number of tutors required. Please contact our administrator to discuss different options with our coordinators.
* A 20 minute presentation on Red Stitch including a tour of the Chapel Street theatre. * Presentation of scenes from several plays in a mode that highlights the particular style and character of the writers chosen. (1 hr) * Q & A with actors and introduction to playwrights, stage design, acting methods. Moderated by supervising Red Stitch teacher. (25 minutes) (30 minute break) * Exploration of ideas using concepts established in the performance session. Scenework with students in smaller groups exploring a range of acting exercises. (1.5 hrs) * A workbook containing selected scenes and other resource material will be provided to each student and teacher on the day.
