Red Stitch has firmly established itself in the Melbourne theatre scene in the nine years since it was founded. The company is committed to bringing the best new contemporary dramas from around the world, and boasts an ensemble of actors with a wealth of professional experience dedicated to the craft of dramatic acting.

Audiences come to Red Stitch to see lively new plays and powerful performances from its ensemble, some of whom work regularly in commercial film, theatre and television productions in addition to their Red Stitch commitments. Professional actors and directors who regularly work for other theatre companies and in TV and film, come to work at Red Stitch for next to nothing simply because they are excited by the calibre of material it offers.

All productions take place in our newly renovated intimate theatre with greatly improved amenities for audiences. In January 2010 we will be commencing a refurbishment of the foyer to enhance the theatre-going experience.

However Red Stitch is not just dedicated to the production of the best new international works. It also provides opportunities for emerging writing talent through Red Stitch Writers, while the Graduate Programme offers talented graduates the unique opportunity to work in a professional environment and gain experience in all facets of theatre. Ensemble members are all heavily involved in the Writers Programme, the management of touring opportunities, staff training, schools programmes, and the general day to day operations of the company itself.

The ability of Red Stitch to mount so many critically acclaimed productions over the last nine years has been greatly assisted by the generosity of theatre lovers, our subscribers and private donors. We intend to continue providing Melbourne’s theatre audiences with stimulating, thought-provoking productions of the best contemporary plays, while our future plans include commissioning and developing at least one new Australian play each year. To achieve this, and to raise production standards to the highest levels, we need your further support.
